An Easter Prayer

My Lord and Savior, let me pray according to your will.  Jesus, I thank you that You are full of mercy.  Have mercy on me, my God.  Know my heart and cleanse me from all evil thoughts both conscious and unconscious.  I am groaning today in oppression and darkness as I remember Your passion week.  I will walk in the Spirit on holy ground as we prepare for Passover and celebrate Your great deliverance.  Open my eyes to see You dwelling in our midst.  May every cloud speak to me of Your chariots, and every strong wind reveal Your footsteps.  Open my eyes to see your hosts of angels who war against principalities and powers and darkness for my sake. Teach my hands to war for the souls of hopeless people and for a nation lost in darkness.

Awaken and anoint the pulpits of this land with flaming fire.  Lord, let Your kingdom come to the churches of America this Easter.  Wash away our sins with rivers of your blood and the bread of life that is broken for us to eat and drink.  Be our nourishment and our life.  Cleanse us with your holy fire.  Let the word of the Lord try our hearts, and renew our minds in purity and passion.  Bring forth a holy people who are full of mercy and truth.  As we remember your deliverance from Egypt, let us experience fully Your deliverance from all brokenness.  We will sing for joy as we cross the Red Sea, no turning back!  You will fulfill Your promise to us.  There will not be one feeble person among us—all healed!  All provided for by the touch of Your miraculous and mighty hand!  Let us march together, a million strong, to declare Your faithfulness.   Make our nation Your holy hill once again—we wait for Your season of showers of blessing.  Let the church be transformed with purity and power.   Lord, take the stony hearts out of our flesh—it has no feeling; it has no vision.  Give us new hearts that are a vessel for Your Spirit that cause us to walk in Your ways.  You will save us from all our uncleanness; we shall be your bride; and You shall be our God.

How long, Oh Lord?  How long can a nation forget Your ways, and a people forget Your commandments?  We will repent.  We will turn from all our wickedness.  We will not forget the poor.  We will despise our judgments against those in bondage to sin.  We will open our hearts to be like You, to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly.  Lead on, King Jesus!  Take back the land that You birthed in love and glory.  We will cry restore, as we are called to be Your instruments of healing.  You have paid the price in precious blood to redeem us.  We will cover our lives with Your robes of righteousness, and walk with You in a Kingdom that cannot be shaken.

You are risen, and we are risen with You!  “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.  They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright”  (Psalm 20:7-8).  “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1).   Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done—here and now in a nation You have loved and prospered, and in the hearts of a people who have called on Your name!  Anoint us with the oil of gladness as we celebrate Your victory!

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About thegriefexperience

I have recently published a book for grieving people called Comfort and Joy available at my website, thegriefexperience.com. I received my Doctor of Education degree from the University of Louisville, and also hold a Master of Science degree and a Physician Assistant degree. I lived as a short term missionary in Swaziland, South Africa, prior to my life as a grief coach and author. My story is about the fact that I am an expert in grief, learning through the goodness of God to navigate a life of sudden turns and repeated trauma that brought grief and loss. I have learned about grief as an unwilling student in a life shaken by sudden death, suicide, and devastating illness. I have been widowed three times, and have raised five children in the midst of earthquake life changes. I have counseled, written and taught classes on The Grief Experience because it is what I have learned well. No amount of education or theory prepares you for multiple experiences of death and loss. But I have found healing in Jesus Christ who is the only One who has conquered death. What He has done for me, He will do for you. Visit my blog at TheGriefExperience.Wordpress.com.
